Airfield 4-H Special Interest Club: Wild Game & Fish Campfire Cooking: Thursdays in December 2025, ages 9-18.
Cost: TBD
Description: Calling all young outdoor chefs! The Airfield 4-H Wild Game & Campfire Cooking SPIN Club is the ultimate hands-on experience for kids who love food, fire, and the great outdoors. This club meets once a week for a fun and delicious journey into the world of campfire cooking, wild game preparation, and creative outdoor meals.
Each week, participants will learn a new cooking method over an open flame, from grilling on an open grate and cooking in Dutch ovens to roasting on skewers and baking in foil packets. They’ll also explore the basics of wild game preparation, learning how to cook meats like rabbit, quail, venison, fish, and other traditional campfire favorites.
But what’s a meal without a treat? Every session ends with a different campfire dessert, from gooey s’mores variations to Dutch oven cobblers and campfire-roasted cinnamon apples. And to top it off, kids will create fun, refreshing campfire drinks, like cowboy-style coffee, homemade lemonades, and hot cocoa made right over the fire.
Through this club, kids will gain confidence in outdoor cooking, learn important fire safety skills, and, most importantly, enjoy delicious food with friends. Whether they’re new to campfire cooking or already love outdoor meals, this club is sure to spark their passion for adventure, flavor, and fun!

Located on the banks of beautiful Airfield Lake in Sussex County, near Wakefield, Virginia, the secluded 218-acre natural setting is only a short drive from Richmond, Williamsburg, and Tidewater, Virginia, where you can "get away" without having to "go away".
The center is located near Wakefield, Virginia, on Airfield Lake. The lake is 105 acres in size and the Center property has more than one mile of shoreland. When the roads were widened and surfaced at the 4-H Center, Union Camp Corporation donated an additional seven acres of land, bringing the present number of acres to 218.
